USA Trip

On April 10th, 30 Year 8 and 9 Henry Beaufort students and three staff went to Philadelphia in the USA for one week. They stayed in a lovely Hotel and travelled to Washington, New York and Philadelphia Zoo. They went to see Amish farms and homes and visited a local school.

Everyone had a really brilliant time. The number of comments on how polite and well behaved the students were, was very impressive!

SKI 2013

On the 6th - 13th April, 56 students and 6 teachers from the Henry Beaufort School went skiing to Le Corbier in the Haute Savoie region of France. The trip was a massive success with all students enjoying the benefit of ESF ski classes and ski exploring. Après-ski included bowling, a local disco, a meal in a local restaurant, a quiz and a movie night.

Football Success!

After a successful season for school football, our Year 8 and Year 9 teams look like they will be promoted next season. The Year 9 team won their league after an unbeaten campaign which included a tight 1-0 win over Westgate School. The Year 8 team came second in their division and were only beaten on goal difference. Credit goes to Mr Hill who has transformed this team into a team who have gained acclaim from other teachers across the county.

Former students offered places at Oxbridge

We offer our congratulations to Meredith Hughes to read Music at Worcester College, Oxford; Andrew Lawrence to read Human, Social and Political Sciences at King’s College, Cambridge; and Sarah Lawson to read Human Sciences at St Hugh’s, Oxford.

BBC News School Report 2013

Henry Beaufort once again took part in the BBC News School Report project on 21 March, showcasing the talents of some of HB’s brightest Year 9 students. The scheme, which is run by the BBC, gave the students an opportunity to use their skills not just in the field of media and journalism, but also in terms of working closely with others, coping with tight deadlines, and using the latest editing software in our Media Suite.

DEAR Day

On Wednesday 27 February, at 10.15am, you could be forgiven to thinking something funny was going on at Henry Beaufort: in nearly every class you went in to, students and teachers had stopped work and were reading. The students were being encouraged to DEAR - Drop Everything And Read.

Sainsbury‘s Bag Pack

Students from Henry Beaufort spent time at Sainsbury's raising money for the Magic Wand Appeal, on Saturday 9th March. The students did really well and Mrs Arnold was delighted when members of the public told her how polite and well mannered the students were. They raised nearly £450 which is a brilliant start to their fundraising campaign.

Non Uniform Day on 11th March

On Monday 11th March we are holding a Non Uniform Day to raise money for our yearly charity. This year we are supporting the 'Magic Wand Appeal' which seeks to improve and refurbish the Children's Ward at the Winchester Hospital. If you send your child to school with £1 then they can dress in non-uniform which is appropriate for the day.

Spring Concert

Hockey Match Victory

The Henry Beaufort Year 7 Hockey team drew against Kings and were crowned the joint winners of a five-school hockey festival that took place at Thornden School, on Wednesday 27 February. The team had been training since before Christmas and had shown a great level of commitment and progress.

Arts Coursework Evening

The Beacon Arts Centre opened its doors on Wednesday 13th February for the Arts Coursework Evening. Aimed at Year 9 students and their parents as they go through the process of choosing their options for Key Stage 4, and open to anyone wishing to see the performances.

Student Council Elections

A new student council has been voted for. Students had two votes each to choose representatives from their CTT who would attend student council meetings and take suggestions from the student body forward. There was a very big turn out.

Young Musicians Festival

The Rotary Club Young Musicians Festival was held in the Beacon Arts Centre at Henry Beaufort School on Sunday 3rd February. Students taking part were Joe Conroy, Tom Corcoran, Annabel Pemberton and Harry Titley. They played with great musicality, amazing flair and real poise - a wonderful credit to the school. Winchester Cathedral Education Service

Year 9 Languages Day

On Tuesday 29th January, all students in Year 9 were off timetable for a Languages Day run by the MFL Department. The aim of the day was to promote the importance of languages in the world today and how languages can be useful in whatever you may do in the future.

Comenius Visit

In December, we all got together to put on a show for our friends, family and the local community. The school wind band, jazz band and orchestra choir, gym squad and several other groups collaborated to put together a performance of epic proportions!

Presentation Evening

Non-Uniform Day 30th November

What a tremendous collection we had on a frosty Friday moring - 76 boxes of tinned goods were brought into school by students and staff. The boxes were squeezed into the school minibus and taken to the Basics Bank Winchester where they were gratefully received.Thank you everyone who contributed to this very worthy cause and the Student Council for organising it.

Anti-Bullying Week at Henry Beaufort

This week is National Anti-Bullying Week 2012 and on Wednesday 21 November, 40 children from our feeder primary schools, from Year 2 to Year 6, visited the school to take part in a programme of activities run by our student council.

National Mock Bar Competition

On Saturday 10 November fifteen students from year ten and eleven participated in the National Mock Bar Competition at Reading Crown Court. The barristers and witnesses had worked hard for weeks, preparing their cases and this was very evident on the day.

Students attend Cathedral Remembrance Service

Student Council visit Children’s Ward

Henry Beaufort School is celebrating its best year ever in terms of GCSE results, with a record-breaking crop of GCSEs that saw 82% of students achieving five or more A*-C grades (two percentage points higher than last year).

Comenius visit

In May, twenty-one students from our partner schools in Germany, Italy and Austria came over to Winchester as part of the Comenius project. The ongoing project lasts two years and is aimed at teaching Henry Beaufort students and our European partners the positive reasons to lead a healthy lifestyle. Our students and their families kindly played hosts to each of the visiting students.

HB students win golds at Languages Conference

On Monday 28th May 2012, six Henry Beaufort School students - along with Mrs Hallett and Mrs Eckett - participated in the HEMTAS World Languages Conference. From a total of eight schools, Henry Beaufort students won the most number of Gold Medals.

Visit to Kings Worthy Primary School

On Friday 25th May, students from Henry Beaufort School visited Kings Worthy Primary School for an assembly. The students ranged from Year 7 to Year 11 and all of them play in the Henry Beaufort Brass Ensemble which rehearses with Mr Garrod every Friday lunchtime.

Henry Beaufort achieves an Artsmark Gold Award

Henry Beaufort has just been awarded the Gold Award. This means that we are recognised as having outstanding arts provision across the school. In order to gain this award we had to put together an audit of all the experiences we offer our students in the arts. We also had to host a visit by a representative of the Arts Council.

Success for our gymnasts at regional competition

On Sunday 22nd April, gymnasts from Henry Beaufort School travelled to Beaconsfield in Buckinghamshire to compete at the Southern Regional Floor and Vault Competition. Our Under-19 team walked away with gold medals, while our Under-13 team won silver in what was a first ever competition for many of them.

Believe and Achieve – Finding out about University

Last Friday we were pleased to welcome Rosie Sharkey from Trinity College Cambridge to speak to students in Year 10 and 11. Her role is in Schools Liaison and she spoke about applying to university. She talked about the advantages of going to university and about the importance of researching and choosing the right courses, both for A level and at university.

Minister for Schools pays a visit to Henry Beaufort

On Thursday 23 February, Henry Beaufort played host to a visit by Minister for Schools, Nick Gibb, and our local MP, Steve Brine. They met staff and governors to find out more about the school before meeting students and answering questions on government policy. The visitors were then given a tour of the campus by our Student Leaders and Ambassadors.

Learn French or Spanish in Year 7

The Modern Foreign Languages department at The Henry Beaufort School is delighted to be able to offer the choice of either Spanish or French to Year 7 students starting in September 2012. The year group will be divided, with half the year group learning French and the other half learning Spanish. Students who progress well will be able to learn an additional foreign language in Year 8.

Diamond Jubilee - Get your work in print

The parish of Littleton and Harestock has big plans to celebrate the Queen's Diamond Jubilee in June. Part of the celebrations will be a commemorative brochure which will be delivered free to about 2000 local homes in May. The organisers would really love some contributions from Henry Beaufort students.

Autumn trip to Dierdorf

Learning the art of animation

As part of the Year 11 Media course, our students have been making short pieces of animation. Working in the school's Media Suite, the students have been learning how to create stop-motion animation films. They planned their ideas on storyboards before embarking on the intricate and time-consuming task of using animation to bring their ideas to life.
