This GCSE equivalent course is aimed at those students who wish to learn about the Sports Industry and have an interest in the technical and analytical skills associated with practical player performance. There are also elements of leadership, officiating and organising sport events and activities. It is predominantly practical with elements of theory being brought out in all practical lessons. There is also a written exam. The course is divided into four areas with each area given a 25% weighting. 

 

Theory – Exam 25% (Compulsory Module)

Students will explore a range of topical and contemporary issues in sport, as well as the promotion of values and ethical behaviour through sport. Students will also learn about the role of high-profile sporting events and national governing bodies in advancing sports’ attempts to positively impact upon society and showcase their worth beyond providing entertainment.

 

Practical – 25% (Compulsory Module)

Students are assessed in 2 sports; an individual and a team. Students will develop their skills, techniques and use of tactics/strategies/compositional ideas in both an individual and a team sporting activity. Students will also improve their understanding of the rules to allow them to act in a number of officiating roles within an activity

 

Sport Leadership (25%) (Compulsory Module)

In this unit, students learn about different leadership roles and styles. They will then go onto to plan and deliver effective and safe sessions and evaluate their own performance.

 

Developing knowledge of Technology in Sport (25%) (tbc)

In this unit students learn about how Technology is used in Sport whilst understanding both the positive and negative effects that Technology can have in Sport. Students will also be required to demonstrate that they can evaluate the impact of Technology in sport.

 

Please note: This option cannot be taken with GCSE Physical Education.
