On Wednesday 6th March the PE Department welcomed Olympic Diver Peter Waterfield. His visit was part of the Sky Sports Living for Sport programme.

Throughout Peter’s career he has achieved Gold Common Wealth Medal and Silver in Athens 2004 Olympics. However, Peter Waterfield is famously known for being Tom Daley’s synchronized diving partner off the 10 metre platform in the London 2012 Olympics where they only just missed out on a Bronze medal.

The day started with an assembly to Year 8 – Peter talked to the students about his journey to success; how he got in to diving and his highlights of his career.

Peter then worked with a group of Gifted and Talented Year 9 students who had the opportunity to work with Peter on the trampoline. Some of the photos show glimpses of how amazing he was. The students were blown away!

The afternoon was then spent with 80 Year 5 pupils from Harestock and Weeke Primary Schools. Peter first talked to the pupils and demonstrated his skills. The Year 5’s were then entertained by an amazing display and performance from the Dancers and Gymnasts at Henry Beaufort School. The Year 11 Sports Leaders then took over. They had organised a Multi Sport Festival in the Sports Hall for all the primary school pupils to take part in.

An excellent day and a fantastic opportunity for so many students to meet Peter Waterfield – hopefully it will inspire students to fulfill and pursue their dreams and ambitions in their chosen sport!
