Year 10 Maths Challenge team reach Regional Finals

Henry Beaufort came out as clear winners on 7th March at the Regional heats of the Year 10 Team Maths Challenge.

FMSP (Further Maths Support Programme) run an annual Year 10 team challenge. This is the first year Henry Beaufort has taken part in the Regional heats of this competition.

It is a national competition which combines mathematical, communication and teamwork skills and offers the students another way to express and develop their enjoyment of mathematics.

On Friday 7th March 2014 Ed Lawrence, Jack Davis, Joe Briggs and Jason Wilson travelled to Itchen College in Southampton where they competed against 9 other schools. After 5 rounds, which had them working together to agree comparisons, taking risks to maximise their score to generate nth terms as the sequences were revealed term by term, producing written solutions to problems and dealing with questions set in base 6 before culminating in a relay round in pairs, Henry Beaufort came out as clear winners!

An excellent result which means we will be going on to compete in the Regional Finals at The University of Sussex on the 2nd May from where the South East will be putting a team forward to compete at the National Finals later in the year.

We wish them lots of luck for the finals in May.
