Andy MacKenzie, Head Chef at Lainston House, dropped by to inspire students as they prepared for a county-wide competition.

Chef Andy MacKenzieFor the past few months, students attending the club have been developing ideas and recipes for a competition Lainston House launched last November. The aim of the competition is to plan a two-course summer menu that uses local produce. It is being run in association with Hampshire Fare and Fit2Cook with emphasis on celebrating the wonderful local produce available in the Hampshire area.

Lainston House Hotel, a 17th Century county house just outside of Winchester, is home to Chef Andy MacKenzie who has won Hampshire Food & Drink’s ‘Chef of the Year’ award for two years running.

On his visit to Henry Beaufort, students watched the chef demonstrate how local produce and be turned into tasty dishes, making Stockbridge Mushroom Orzo with peas, rocket, winter Tuscan truffle and Lyburn cheese.

The students loved the recipe, particularly when they had the chance to taste the food!

All competition entries need to be submitted by 3rd April. If you fancy taking part in the competition, please see Mrs Drake.
