Beaufort artist workshop with sculptor Celia Smith

Earlier this year, Year 9's Katie Millar won a place in the finals of the Specialist Art Competition, and a trip to Manchester for the prize day. The prize day consisted of a wire sculpture workshop with sculptor Celia Smith, and Katie travelled up to spend the day learning from Celia herself!

Katie enjoyed excellent demonstrations and one to one help from Celia as she walked around the tables to chat to the prize winners.  Almost all the 10 finalists made it to the event, most having travelled on the day like Katie, from all corners of the UK, some even from as far as Aberdeen, Northern Ireland, Newcastle, Essex and Reading!

Each prize winner made a 2D followed by a 3D wire sculpture to take home with them. There was a presentation towards the end of the day with certificates handed out and the winner announced - Hannah, 17, from Aberdeen who is studying Art A Level. Celia had apparently changed her mind three times during the day and hated having to decide on a winner! Well done Katie.
