Year 11 Return to School January 2021

31st December 2020

Information for parents of students in Year 11

Dear Parents,

You will be aware from the Prime Ministers briefing on Wednesday the 30th of  December that there has been a change to the first two weeks of the term for secondary school  students.

Year 11 will not be attending on site schooling in the first week of term. Instead they will start on line lessons through Microsoft teams from Tuesday the 5th of January.

Monday the 4th remains an INSET day .

Each lesson will be 50 minutes long to allow for my colleagues to set up and prepare for the next lesson in the day and for students to switch between lessons and prepare resources. Students should follow their normal timetable and join the Microsoft Teams meeting. There will be a few minutes at the start of the lesson to ensure all students have joined and some time at the end if students need to ask questions.

As a school we have prepared some videos to help support you with your child’s learning whilst at home. These videos can be found on the school website ( and give detailed instructions on how students navigate the schools online systems as well as some of the online learning platforms we use across the school. We hope these prove useful for you and your child as they work from home.

If your child does not have access to a laptop, please contact the school on Monday the 4th of January. We are able to assist with this. Please contact the school using the admin email address below.

There will be a small number of  ‘critical worker’ children in school and a separate google form will be sent out to you on Monday . Please complete this form if it applies to your family circumstances. If you could please complete and return by 1pm on Monday the 4th of January.

Critical worker children will be in school from Tuesday the 5th of January 2021. All buses will run as normal on that day. Students must be in full school uniform.

Government guidance issued to schools today makes it clear that, ‘ No-one should attend education or childcare if they have symptoms of coronavirus (COVID-19) or are self-isolating due to symptoms in their household.’

Please do not send children in to school if someone in your household or someone you have been in close contact within the last 10 days is waiting on the result of a test.

Please contact the school through the email address if your household is in this situation.

Updates will continue throughout next week including information on testing in schools, return to the school site the week beginning the 11th  of January and any changes we may have to make to the timetable or scheduled events. We will keep these changes to a minimum but this is subject to any further instructions received from the government and I imagine this will depend on scientific advice and the implications for CV-19 transmissions in relation to the R rate.

Once again we are having to call upon you to support your child’s education at a time that I appreciate is difficult and stressful for you all.  Thank you.

We hope that providing on line remote learning will ease the burden but if we could where possible ask you to go through your child’s Timetable with them [ available in the Student handbook] so that you, as well as they, are aware of their lessons for next week from Tuesday onwards.

Kind regards,

Miss Hearle
