Reading

Resources

There are over 4,000 books in the library, including an extensive range of fiction titles. We have a dedicated ‘graphic novel’ section, quick reads, classics and other novels of a variety of genres to suit every reader.

Our non-fiction section carries titles on a range of topics from football to politics, and everything in between. It is designed not only to support students in their classwork and Home Learning, but also to give them the opportunity to read around other subjects that interest them.

In the Library we also have computers and laptops available for students to use in their lessons and for school work before school, at break/lunch times and in Home Learning Club after school. Students can access a wide range of E-resources in the Library to help with school work and research.

Year 7 and 8 students are able to borrow up to two books at a time and Year 9, 10 and 11 students can borrow up to three. Books are loaned for a two-week period, which can be extended by visiting the Library to renew items if they are required for longer.

Staffing

The Library is staffed by the Library Manager, Mrs G. Paine, from Monday to Thursday and the Friday Library Manager, Mrs Smith-Dale. Mrs Paine and Mrs Smith-Dale are on hand to help all students and staff with any enquiries they have.

There is also a team of Student Librarians who assist at break and lunch times.

Student Librarians

Here at The Henry Beaufort School we have a great team of Student Librarians from Year 8 and 9 who help in the Library at break and lunch times and also before and after school.

The team are responsible for leading events, competitions and activities as well as helping to create displays, choose new stock and write content for the Library newsletter.

Student Librarians have the opportunity to work towards five awards (First, Bronze, Silver, Gold and Platinum) whilst they are in post. These awards are all affiliated with the School Library Association and are nationally recognised. Every month, one member of the team is also chosen as Student Librarian of the Month by the School Librarian.
