Relationships, Health & Sex Education

About

Our Relationships, Sex and Health Education (RSHE) programme helps students develop the knowledge, understanding and skills they need to build healthy relationships, stay safe, and prepare for life in modern society.

At The Henry Beaufort School, Relationships, Health and Sex Education is delivered in three ways; through Personal Development Days for all year groups, through specific tutor sessions and for Year 10 through dedicated RSE lessons.

Our Whole School Policy on Relationships, Health and Sex Education can be found by clicking this link.

Specification

Students in Year 10 receive one RSHE lesson per fortnight on their timetable. These sessions cover the following statutory themes:

    • Families
    • Respectful Relationships
    • Online Safety and Awareness
    • Being Safe
    • Intimate & Sexual Relationships – including Sexual Health

Within each theme, a range of topics are covered and discussed.

Our aim is to ensure that every child is taught by experienced staff and that they feel safe and confident in their RSHE lessons.

Details of how Relationships, Health and Sex Education is taught and covered at The Henry Beaufort School can be found on the curriculum overview below.

Key points for parents

  • Age-appropriate curriculum: Lessons are carefully planned to suit students’ age and stage of development, building knowledge progressively over time.
  • Healthy relationships and respect: Students learn about respect, consent, equality and how to form positive, safe relationships.
  • Health and wellbeing: The curriculum supports students’ physical and mental health, including topics such as puberty and emotional wellbeing.
  • Online safety and safeguarding: Students are taught how to stay safe online and recognise risks, with clear links to the school’s safeguarding provision.
  • Working in partnership with parents: We share information about what is taught and provide a supportive environment where students feel safe to ask questions and seek help.
