Year 11 Results Day - Thursday 20th August 2020

Dear Parents and Students,

Year 11 Results Day - Thursday 20th August 2020

Coronavirus has affected so many aspects of all of our lives including exams.  We share with you the disappointment and frustration of not having the opportunity to prove your abilities in each of your subjects in a “normal” exam season. Your teachers, academic leaders and SLT have worked hard to provide each of you with a grade for every subject entered. Staff have carefully assessed many aspects of your study including your work and progress over the whole of your GCSE course. These grades are now with the exam boards for standardisation.  Exam boards will now, under Ofqual’s guidance, set about their process to deliver your grades. As some parents may not be clear how grades are calculated this year we have provided you the link to the exams regulator www.youtube.com/watch?v=fRTyGmUJIrw. They also have released an infographic for your information https://assets.publishing.service.gov.uk/government/uploads/system/uploads/attachment_data/file/887041/6614-4_Infographic_-_Process_for_awarding_GCSEs__AS_and_A_levels_summer_2020.pdf

We have decided to partially open the school for students to collect their results in person on Results Day – Thursday 20 August (subject to no change in Government guidance due to a “spike”). We will re-send final confirmation of arrangements for Results Day to students and parents on Wednesday 19th August 2020.

The plan for the day is that students will enter school only from the main gate at the top car park at specific timed intervals. We regret that for everyone’s safety students cannot be accompanied onsite and would ask parents not to gather at the site entrance. Once onsite Year 11 students will line up, adhering to strict social distancing measures, to collect their results from the Community Lounge at the far end of the Upper car park. We will operate a one way system and students will exit the rear of the Community Lounge go upstairs and exit school by the car park behind the Beacon Arts building and the small gate at the side. Staff will be available to assist students in negotiating the routes safely. For everyone’s safety the car park will not be available for parents to park or drop off student. Results can only be collected by the student in person and results cannot be issued by telephone or email.  If a student is unable to collect their results at the allocated time results will be posted on the day. If students, or anyone in their household, have Coronavirus symptoms they should not come to school; results will be posted to these students. Students should be mindful of the government’s safer travel guidance for passengers  https://www.gov.uk/guidance/coronavirus-covid-19-safer-travel-guidance-for-passengers

We have taken Government guidance and the timings will be as follows:

10.00     Athens and Berlin

10.30     Luxembourg and Moscow

11.00     Prague and Rome

11.30     Warsaw

We would hope that most of you will be satisfied with your grades and allows you to progress to your next stage. Senior staff will be on hand behind the Beacon Arts Centre to discuss your results with you should you have any queries.

The school will be closed from Tuesday 21st July 3pm and our next communication regarding exams will be on 19th August.

Kind regards,

Mr Applin- Assistant Headteacher & Mrs A M Hine- Exams Officer
