Book CoverYear 7s and 10s were transfixed as Lucy Daniel Raby, author of Nickolai of the North and Nickolai’s Quest, read extracts from her books.

Lucy Daniel Raby, an author comparable to the likes of J.K Rowling, has created her own magical world in two children’s novels, where flying is possible and good and evil are caught in a continuous battle for supremacy! The subject of her books investigates the early life of Santa Claus; where he came from and what happened before he became the jolly, rotund and grandfather-like figure in which we associate him.

Her interactive presentation to 60 students covered a detailed talk about her ideas and her writing process, pausing to answer lots of questions from her intrigued audience. As well as Lucy reading extracts from her books, members of both year groups enjoyed dressing up in the paraphernalia of Father Christmas, a method to demonstrate the amount of research Lucy prepared in the five year long writing process!

Lucy RabyMany students stayed on at the end of her hour-long presentation to buy signed copies of her books.

The school hopes that similar events will become an annual pre-Christmas treat for those who work hard to improve reading skills.
