Henry Beaufort students meet author Jonathan Stroud
On Thursday 12th December, 10 enthusiastic Year 9 readers visited the Winchester Guildhall to hear author Jonathan Stroud give an engaging talk about his writing, and to see him receive his Hampshire Book Award.
Jonathan Stroud won the award for his book, ‘Lockwood & Co: The Screaming Staircase’, a thrilling story about a shabby yet talented ghost-hunting agency, Lockwood & Co, which must defeat an epidemic of ghosts in Britain; there are two copies of the book available in the The Henry Beaufort School library for students to take out.
The students who went along all took part in the Hampshire Book Award last year, an annual competition where schools in the Hampshire area read six different books and vote for the winner. The students thoroughly enjoyed the day - and even got to meet and speak to Jonathan Stroud in a book signing afterwards. The Guildhall was bursting with local schools and it was great to see so many passionate young readers together.
Now for the next Hampshire Book Award, which will take place in Spring 2016!
