  • Young Carers visit Winchester University

    Published 29/11/18

On Tuesday the 16th of October  a group of students who are all young carers were invited to spend a day at the University of Winchester to learn about what life would be like at university.

The aim of the visit was to give the students an opportunity to:

    •  Explore the types of learning and teaching methods used at university
    • To find out about the different options available after school/college
    • To learn about support available to young carers at university

The students were introduced to the types of subjects and learning methods in higher education as well as the routes that can be taken to get to university and degree apprenticeships.  They  had an opportunity to debate the question, ‘Should the voting age be lowered to 16?’ This as a very lively debate!  They also explored the kind of support they would get as young carers undertaking a degree.

In the afternoon they undertook the ‘marshmallow challenge’ as well as finding out about the clubs and societies they could join at University.

The students were buzzing at the end  of the day  and talked about how they have learnt so much about the different options available to them. It has also given them  confidence and reassurance that they are able to access further education alongside  the vital role they play in caring for members of their family.

  • The Henry Beaufort School Remembers

    Published 09/11/18

The whole school community marked the centenary of the end of WWI with a special installation. All of the students contributed to the installation by writing messages of remembrance on cut out and origami doves that we have installed along the corridor of  the main reception area. These were prepared as part  of a tutor programme on remembrance.  Our young people were exceptional  this morning. They have created a magnificent installation and their behaviour during the installation and for the two minute silence was exemplary.

They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old: Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn. At the going down of the sun and in the morning we will remember them.
