Successful Technology College Redesignation

Good news for Henry Beaufort, as the school gains redesignation for the next three years as a Technology College.

Good news for Henry Beaufort, as the school gains redesignation for the next three years as a Technology College. Our School Improvement Partner, Mr Will Sarell, spent a day at the school on Thursday 24th June, scrutinising documentation and interviewing staff and students to assess the impact of our specialist school status. First achieved in 2002, we have received over £900,000 in funding to develop technology across the curriculum. We now have a guarantee of a further three years of funding (almost £400,000).

The main aims of the specialist school programme are :

·       To raise standards across the school and in the target subjects (Maths, Science and Technology)

·       To increase participation in these areas after students leave Henry Beaufort

·       To use technology in particular to enrich the curriculum

·       To work closely with business and industrial partners

·       To extend our involvement within the community within a local, national and international context

Thanks to the hard work of our students, teachers and governors, Henry Beaufort has become a centre of expertise within the area of technology.  We have had the best results the school has ever achieved and our work has been rewarded with the outstanding category following March’s OFSTED. Students and staff are used to working with hi-tech equipment and we as a school are in a position where we can share our knowledge and experience with other schools, both here and overseas.

Part of the redesignation process involves planning ahead to identify new projects which will fulfil the aims of the programme. These include the setting up of an environmental group (The Green Team) to develop a vegetable plot, both for scientific purposes and to raise some crops. We now have a fantastic telescope which will be the focus of a new club for students and hopefully an Astronomy Club for the local community.

These and many more ideas will be developed over the next three years to further improve facilities and experiences for our students and extend our networks to share what we have, with others, within and outside the educational community.

We look forward to three more years as an Outstanding Technology College!
