STEM club take on the BP Ultimate Challenge
This term, The Henry Beaufort School's STEM club have been working with London-based construction firm GallifordTry. Senior Project Manager from GallifordTry, Simon Greaves has been working closely with students, working towards the Ultimate BP Challenge 2. The challenge requires teams of two to four students aged 11 to 14 from across the UK to put their Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths skills to the test in order to win some fantastic prizes, including an invitation to a celebratory event at the Science Museum in London, £500 for their school and Science Museum goodies.
As a STEM Ambassador linked to the Winchester Science Centre, Simon from GallifordTry has worked closely with the school to offer support with the challenge to investigate how to make buildings more energy efficient.
The STEM Club have been testing different types of insulation on a cube to see which are most effective at keeping the cube warm in a cold environment, as well as cool in a warm environment. The St George’s Park project kindly donated insulation materials to the school to assist them with their experiments.
